Hi, I’m a New York State resident from _____ and I’m calling to demand that Governor Hochul commute the sentences of criminalized survivors of gender violence who are incarcerated for acts of survival.

Since Hochul assumed the Governorship in 2021, she’s only commuted the sentences of 3 survivors of gender violence and 8 out of the 16 commutations she’s granted only made people parole-eligible. Right now, Hochul has the power to commute the sentences of thousands of incarcerated New Yorkers, many of whom are imprisoned for survival actions, including defending their lives or the lives of their children, removing children from abusive people, and acts of coercion as accomplices.

Gov. Hochul claims to be pro-survivor, but she is keeping survivors locked up by hardly using her clemency powers. Hochul must use her clemency powers immediately and free them all NOW.
